How do I crop a source and should I do it before or after I remux it?

Hi there,

I have this 8GB Quicktime Movie file of my daughters Graduation that I recorded with my DJI Actioncam 3. Obviously I need to lower its size since I cannot upload to youtube and I try to convert it to another lower resolution or crop it / cut it with Final Cut Pro or iMovie and it crashes after waiting ages.

My solution in the end was to record it via OBS and the file is like 200 MB only LOL! The quality is still really good. BUT the beginning and end needs cropped (Cut / Chop off). Can I do this on OBS software? Do I do this before or after it is REMUXED?

Currently I did it on Final Cut but upon trying to export the new file at 720 quality and the now shorter file has become 2GB (original was only 200MB)?

Please let me know since I am new to this OBS software.

Thanks

Do you just mean trimming off the beginning and end of the video? Just start it playing, and don't start recording in OBS till you want to, and then stop recording as needed.
Or, if that's not feasible for some reason, once you've reduced the size to 200MB, upload that to YouTube, and trim it there. You do have to wait for it to finish processing after upload, but that shouldn't take too long.
Another option (I think, haven't tried this in years) is to upload directly to YouTube from iMovie. At least I assume that will send an appropriately-sized file to YouTube.
